Nancy will share the highlights of the National Association of School Nurses conference she attended last summer in Denver.  Topics will include  PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndromes) and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections), encopresis, probably migraines…. Something for everyone!

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum, and spinal column. It uses gentle pressure on the head, neck, and back to relieve the stress and pain caused by compression, and can be useful in treating a number of conditions.

“Children With Diabetes in School Settings”Fall Leaves

Presented by: Dana Baumgartner, RN, NP

Ms. Baumgartner has extensive background as an RN in intensive care and Nurse Practitioner in Endocrinology. Volunteering at a camp for children with diabetes led her to become board certified in advanced diabetes management (BC-ADM). For the past year she has worked as a diabetes program coordinator.

Come join us for an enjoyable afternoon learning more about care of schoolchildren with diabetes. The presentation will be followed by social time with other nurses and non-nurse friends interested in health care issues.

Presented by Dr. Kathy Marsh PhD, RN, CNS, Associate Dean, Hahn School of Nursing, University of San Diego

Profile:  Dr. Kathy Marsh, is the Associate Dean in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science & Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, University of San Diego. She oversees the Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN), the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), the Executive Nurse Leader (ENL), the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), and the International Programs. Her research is related to pediatric populations and families, with Type 1 Diabetes, to make seamless and successful transitions to young adulthood as well as the study of psycho-educational interventions that improve both metabolic control of diabetes and the quality of life in young people and their parents. Presented by Yurika Moribe Tsuda, Clinical Psychologist

Profile: M.A. in psychology, a researcher specialized in multicultural counseling. Currently working in Tokyo as a counselor in National Center for Global Health and Medicine, pediatric department and a multicultural/multilingual psychiatric clinic, Yotsuya Yui Clinic.

Was born in Japan, grew up in a multicultural, multilingual family. Has spent her childhood in the Philippines and the USA, then returned to Japan in her late teens. Has been involved as a volunteer and a coordinator for multicultural youth in local communities. As a second generation Filipino-Japanese, it has been her life work to support and collaborate with these children and families.
